Step 1- Written Test
The application process to join the Baltimore Police Department is demanding.
However, the rewards can last a lifetime. Below are the steps to join the department.
A 100 question multiple choice exam. The test is offered every Tuesday at 12:30 PM and 6:00 PM. The study guide for the exam can be found here...Study Guide. The test is FREE and you do not need to preregister to attend.
Step 2- Agility Test
The Agility Test is a pass / fail exam consisting of the following elements: sit-ups, push-ups, bench press, sit and reach test, 1.5 mile run, and Glock familiarization. Each element must be passed to continue in the process. If you fail, you may attempt the Agility Test and the next available opportunity.
Step 3- Written Psychological Exam
At this step, applicants will take a multiple choice exam. All applicants will also turn in the job application and provide copies of vital documents. The job application and list of requested documents can be found here...Job Application. Applicants should be prepared to stay 4 hours.
Step 4- Background Interview
Applicants will meet with their assigned background investigator. Applicants should be prepared to stay 4 hours.
Step 5- Polygraph Exam, Psychological Exam, Physical Exam
Applicants will take the following exams: Polygraph, Psychological, and Physical exam. All exams are conducted by certified examiners. Every effort will be made to schedule events as close together as possible.
Step 6- Background Investigation
Background investigators will verify applicants' employment, education, military, and financial history. References (personal and professional) will be verified.
Step 7- Review and Hiring Decision
At the conclusion of the investigation, an applicant's file will be submitted for a hiring decision. If you are selected for hire, you will be contacted to complete the required paperwork and get sworn in.
