Currently, over 500 members on the department are veterans from all branches and various enlisted and officer ranks. Veterans serve as members in executive leadership (command staff) and in every specialized unit within the department. In addition to the ability to rise in rank and serve in all specialized units, veterans also get up to 3 years of active duty service time credited towards retirement and GI Bill benefits while in our Police Academy.
If you are an honorably discharged veteran that is looking to continue public service as well as work in a team environment that foster esprit de corps, please consider the Baltimore Police Department for employment as a Police Officer.
Active duty applicants are encouraged to start their application process 6 months prior to their discharge date (not terminal leave). Applicants cannot be hired until they have their DD214 Member 4 showing an Honorable Discharge.
All honorably discharged veterans that meet qualifications set forth by the department will be hired as long as our department is actively hiring. (Please Click Here for Testing Dates – WE ARE HIRING).
