BPD District Boundaries - Effective July 2023

Baltimore, Md. (July 6, 2023) – Starting the morning of July 9, 2023, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) will launch its new police districts, sectors and posts as part of its Reimagining Policing in Baltimore plan.

“We used a data-driven approach to develop sectors and posts that balances officer workload, better aligns with our staffing plan and ensures we are providing policing services more equitably for all neighborhoods across the City,” said Deputy Commissioner Eric Melancon.

Main goals for redistricting were equalizing officer workload across posts, reducing driving distance across sectors and keeping neighborhoods together. Additionally, establishing equitable response times and even distribution of resources were top priorities.

To ensure the integrity of each district, post and sector, the Department spent several months reviewing the data for calls for service, crime trends and officer workload. The process included multiple rounds of community feedback, discussions with elected officials and business leaders and input from each of the districts’ command members.

While redrawing these boundaries, certain geographic realities, hospital locations and industrial vs. residential areas were taken into consideration.

Data will be regularly reviewed and reassessed and posts can be redrawn as the data suggests is necessary.

The BPD believes these changes will allow the BPD to position its patrol resources more effectively and bring a renewed sense of safety and involvement to the communities we are sworn to protect.
