On July 20, 2023, at approximately 11:07 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Water Street to investigate a call for an assault.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive 32-year-old male being taken by medics to an area hospital.

Upon arriving at the area hospital, medical staff advised officers that the 32-year-old male was in critical condition and had suffered trauma to his head.  

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation with a  45-year-old male, who was later identified as Shakeff Hatcher. Detectives later obtained a warrant for the arrest of Shakeff Hatcher. 

Investigators believe that Hatcher had pushed the victim down some stairs during their verbal altercation, resulting in the victim’s injuries.

On July 28, 2023, at approximately 10:03 a.m., the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force members arrested 45-year-old Shakeff Hatcher in the unit block of South Calvert Street.

Hatcher was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder and additional charges.
