Eastern District Child Neglect
On February 10, 2023, at approximately 11:13 a.m., Eastern District patrol officers responded to the rear alley of the 300 block of East Lafayette Avenue for a child neglect call for service.
Once officers arrived, they discovered a young child, approximately between the ages of four and five, restrained in a stroller. A concerned citizen heard a child sobbing, went to investigate, and found the child abandoned in the alley.
There were no outward indications of harm. The child is non-verbal and was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation. Child Protective Services was notified.
Officers found surveillance footage of a woman pushing the stroller into the alley and then leaving the area. The woman's identity and connection to the child are currently unknown.
