Southern District Homicide Investigation

On Jan. 9, 2009, at approximately 7:41 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Maude Avenue to investigate a call for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed 44-year-old Meron Benjamin suffering from numerous life-threatening gunshot wounds. Medics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he remained in stable yet critical condition until he was sadly pronounced deceased on May 28, 2022. 

Due to the victim’s critical condition, Homicide detectives were notified and assumed control over this investigation.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Meron Benjamin’s cause of death as a result of complications of a gunshot wound, thus ruling this incident a homicide on Dec. 27, 2023.

Northeast District Shooting Investigation

On Dec. 27, 2023, at approximately 10:53 p.m., officers responded to an area hospital to investigate a call for a walk-in shooting victim.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was shot in the 1300 block of Silverthorne Road.

Northeast District Shooting detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.

Northeast District Fatal Pedestrian Involved Crash

On December 27, 2023, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Northeast District patrol officers responded to a gas station lot in the 5600 block of The Alameda, for a pedestrian-involved crash.

Once there, officers located a 58-year-old male whom a vehicle had struck. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he later died.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 58-year-old male victim was directing the 31-year-old driver of the vehicle to back up closer to the pumps when he was struck by the vehicle.  

The 31-year-old driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

Crash Team detectives are investigating this incident.
